This week, the Cripps Pemberton Greenish in a Day team has met with newly qualified solicitor Nick Harding, to discuss his role within the Planning team.

  1. Describe your role and area of expertise

I am a solicitor in the Planning team. I specialise in acting for residential developers to negotiate planning agreements with local authorities in relation to new developments. I also advise a range of commercial property investors and private clients in relation to planning law aspects.

  1. What do you find most interesting about your work?

I love the commercial aspect of being a lawyer. Commercial awareness and the ability to network well are key attributes of lawyers in this day and age. I attend networking and social events in Tunbridge Wells and London regularly and it adds a bit of fun into work.

  1. What inspired you to pursue a career in law?

When I was a student I went to London for some work experience in a city law firm and also at a barristers’ chambers. I found the subject of law interesting and it is fascinating how much of business and private life is affected by how the law is interpreted and applied.

  1. How has your life changed since qualification and how did you find the transition from trainee to NQ?

The change from trainee to NQ is a big jump, but it is exciting. The extra responsibility of having your own clients and files to manage and look after gives you more sense of importance, but of course there is a lot of extra work!

  1. What is your favourite thing about working for Cripps Pemberton Greenish?

My colleagues are sociable, helpful and great to work with. I am looking forward to the move into our new state-of-the-art offices in Tunbridge Wells which are set out in a modern, open plan environment which should promote greater collaborative working in the firm.
